Not far from the Shoreham-Wading River School District lie nature trails; turtles, birds, deer and other animals; the Long Island Sound and lessons in outdoor adventures for Miller Avenue School second graders.

On several field trips to Wildwood State Park, students met with Ranger Eric Powers where they observed two different ecosystems and how they relate to each other.

“It was a beautiful day of sunshine and inspiration,” teacher Courtney Von Bargen said. She, along with Alice Steinbrecher’s class, visited the park on May 12. “It was an opportunity to understand and develop an appreciation for the natural world as well as to protect and respect our local fragile resources and the wildlife who live there, too.”
