The Shoreham-Wading River High School orchestra students continue to improve their performance techniques and had another opportunity when they were visited by orchestra composer Eric B. Davis for a clinic and workshop session.
The orchestra is rehearsing “Chimera,” a piece composed by Mr. Davis that they will perform at the high school’s Orchestra/Choir Concert on Monday, March 7 at 7 p.m. The students performed “Chimera” for Mr. Davis and received feedback and suggestions on how to improve directly from the composer. Students learned about Mr. Davis’ background as a composer, guitarist, teacher and professional musician and asked questions about his education, career and musical process.
“It was incredible to be able to receive feedback directly from the composer himself and to learn more about the background of this piece, his inspiration for writing it and how certain sections are meant to be played,” orchestra teacher Ashley O’Connor said. “Students are feeling even more excited and ready to perform this piece after receiving valuable advice from Mr. Davis.”
