Dear Shoreham-Wading River families,
Now that the school year has ended, it’s time for our Shoreham-Wading River students to rest, regroup and READ!
As many parents know, when children continue to read during the summer
months their academic performance actually increases when they return to
school in September. Spelling, writing and developing a more extensive
vocabulary are also part of the benefits package!
For your convenience, below are three resources for you to engage your
child in reading for pleasure, knowledge, exploration, inspiration,
advanced analytical thinking skills, and improved focus and
concentration. For our High School AP and Honors students, summer
assignments are here:

Also, every Tuesday throughout the summer, we will post on Facebook a
reading tip from our friends at Reading Rockets, which offers a wealth
of research-based reading strategies, lessons and activities designed to
help young children learn how to read and develop more effective
reading skills.
We also invite you to send us photos of you and your children reading in
your favorite summer spots throughout July and August. Photos can be
sent to:
nwaldbauer@swr.k12.ny.us. We will post pictures periodically
so be sure to check back on Facebook!
Thank you for helping us to continue to build a stronger Shoreham-Wading River community of readers.
All the best for a summer filled with reading adventures!

This week’s Tip:
Read aloud together with your child every day.
Make it fun by reading outdoors on the front steps, patio, at the beach
or park. Also, let your children read to you. For younger children,
point out the relationship between words and sounds.
