The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District has named Mr. John
Holownia assistant principal of Shoreham-Wading River High School. He
will begin his role on July 1. Throughout his professional career, Mr.
Holownia has had a strong focus on student achievement at all ability
levels as well as his own professional goals. He holds a Bachelor of
Arts in English Literature from Princeton University and a Master of
Science in Education-Special Education from Hofstra University. He also
earned an Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from SUNY Stony
Brook. He is certified as a New York State School Building Leader and a
New York State School District Leader. He also holds professional
certification in New York State Students with Disabilities 7-12-English
and NYS English Language Arts 7-12. His most recent role of 13 years
was as a high school special education teacher for the Comsewogue School
District and he has been instrumental in implementing SEL programs, 1-1
Chromebook programs, project based learning and mentoring new teachers.
His varied interests include stints coaching football and lacrosse at
the junior varsity and varsity levels and he has extensive experience
with the most up-to-date technology. “We are very excited to have him
join our team and know he will have a great impact on student outcomes
in all areas,” Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole said.
