Students at Miller Avenue learned about various animals and habitats during an in-school New York State Department of Environmental Conservation program.
During the one-hour session, Abraham Polakunnil, an environmental educator with the DEC, discussed the importance of environmental conservation, how to properly care for pets, and some of the habitats and different animal species native to Long Island and found around the world. Students were also given the opportunity to touch and learn about four visiting animals, including a hissing cockroach, an Eastern box turtle, a California kingsnake and a chinchilla.
