Shoreham-Wading River High School students ignited their journalism creativity by attending Adelphi University’s Virtual Press Day. Thirteen students – sophomores Kayla Bodenburg and Anja Minty, juniors Scott Miller and Kayla Tezcan and seniors Nawal Choudhry, Anthony Darin, Madison DeGroot, Olivia DesRoches, Avery Hillis, Jaime Johannessen, Brigid Lynch, Victoria Mburu and Mika Misawa – attended, along with journalism teacher Christine Varvaro and English teacher Sara Trenn, who advises the school’s digital newspaper, The Pause. The students participated in numerous workshops with Adelphi faculty, listened to keynote speaker Meg Norris, the publisher of five Nassau County weekly newspapers, took part in a Q&A and ended the day with a virtual student-guided campus tour of the university.

“This opportunity served as a valuable experience for them and will help to further enhance the district’s journalism program while keeping connected to colleges,” District Director of Humanities Nicole Waldbauer said.
