As a testament to the dedication of music education in the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District, it has been ranked among the National Association of Music Merchants 2020 “Best Communities for Music Education” in America. The honor acknowledges schools and districts across the country for their commitment to and support for music education as part of the core curriculum.

This first-time honor for SWR recognizes the collaborative efforts among teachers, students, administrators, the Board of Education, parents and the support of WHAM (Wildcats Helping the Arts & Music). The District boasts multiple vocal, band and orchestral performing groups for students and each group is provided with the opportunity to perform within the community.

District music educators were honored at the virtual Board of Education meeting on April 14. Mr. Alan Meinster, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment congratulated the K-12 music teachers and recognized the foundational music instruction at the elementary level to the opportunities that middle and high school students have in the school and community. He also extended gratitude to music teacher Mr. Dennis Creighton for his coordination and efforts in facilitating the historic designation.
