Ten High School string students recently performed in the Secondary Long Island String Festival at St. John the Baptist High School. The students –Natalie Acker on double bass, Alexander Kravchenko on cello, Stephanie Searing on viola and violinists Grace Curry, Sarah Kruzynski, Anja Minty, Mika Misawa, Margaret Panasci, Kaylee Thomsen and Eleanora Undrus – were selected based on a competitive basis with New York State School Music Association scores as the main criteria along with teacher recommendations. “They put in extra time learning the music before they arrive at the festival and work with a guest conductor to hone their performance,” music teacher Mr. Dennis Creighton said. “We are thrilled that these students were selected to perform in this prestigious event.” The School District extends its congratulations to the musicians. These students will next grace the SWRHS stage on Feb. 5th for the Electrify Your Strings concert featuring Mark Woods of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
