Six Shoreham-Wading River High School students had an opportunity to highlight a unique educational experience when they were interviewed by Long Island News Radio host Bob Vecchio for the Spotlight on Long Island Schools radio program. Will Cutinella, Liam Daly, Aidan Drost, Zach Gregorek, Julia Marsala and Nicolette Tingo spoke about competing in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program with the show’s host Mr. Robert Vecchio. During the question-and-answer unscripted interview, the students were asked to detail their experience in designing and proposing real microgravity experiments to fly in low Earth orbit (experiments conducted in a “weightless” environment) aboard the International Space Station. The students described the work of the nearly 240 students from grades 5-12 throughout the school district in this authentic and powerful STEAM initiative. They were accompanied by high school science teacher Mr. Kevin Nohejl, who is instrumental in leading the SSEP initiative. The news program will be broadcast on Long Island News Radio 103.9 FM on Saturday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 18, both at 10:30 a.m.
