Students in Mr. Robert Marino’s forensic science class were introduced to Locard's exchange principle during a recent lab. A pioneer in forensic science, Dr. Edmond Locard believed that when a criminal or person came in contact with an object or person, a cross-transfer of evidence occurred. Mr. Marino asked students to wear a clean T-shirt that was washed separately for one day and then packaged in a Ziploc bag. The students were tasked with examining each shirt for any fragmentary transfers of fibers, hairs, wood shavings, metal filings, tidbits of paper, or any small, lightweight item that adheres to the donor object.
