As a result of her dedication and high performance in mathematics,
eighth-grader Anja Minty has been named a Long Island Scholar of
Mathematics. She was accepted into a special program by the Institute of
Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students at SUNY Old
Westbury.
Her placement was earned by the recommendation Prodell Middle School
math teacher Robert Mancuso, a written statement and a high score on a
rigorous entrance exam.
Anja will be among just 85 students selected by the Institute and attend
50 hours of instruction over the course of 20 Saturday mornings. The
curriculum covers topics including algebra, geometry, discrete math and
number theory.
“Anja is, and will be, a life-long learner,” Mr. Mancuso said. “She is
incredibly dedicated to her studies and is always looking for ways to
push herself. I am very proud of her selection and participation in this
program.”
