Shoreham-Wading River Central School District faculty, administrators and staff members commenced the 2018-19 school year during its Superintendent’s Conference Day on Sept 4.

Welcoming remarks from Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole; Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Alan Meinster; Middle School Principal Kevin Vann, who also serves as the District’s Administrators Association president; Mary Jean Carlson, Civil Service Employees Association president and SWR Teacher’s Association president Mary Hygom set a tone for a positive academic year of learning.

Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Brian Heyward recognized the new members of the school community: Jennifer Anthony, health and physical education; Cara Brown, music; Michael Buscemi, special education; James Finnerty, music; Brendan Lynch, guidance; Veronica Pezdan, math; Gueus Robert, French; Samantha Shepard, art; Sara Trenn, English; Nicole Waldbauer, Director of Humanities and Tara Ann Yoches, Spanish.

Mr. Poole then reflected on the successes of the past school year and commended the staff members for the energies and passion they bring to their work in the district. Shoreham-Wading River High School senior Sophia Mastrangelo sang Katy Perry’s “Firework” before the staff and faculty reported to their respective buildings for professional development programs and workshops in preparation for opening day.
