Students from the High School’s Introduction to Science Research Class visited Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s campus marking the end of an exciting first year in their research experience. The lab hosted its annual Barcode Long Island Student Symposium, the culminating event in the year-long Barcode Long Island project. Two student projects were presented from the SWR group: Biodiversity of Aquatic Macroinvertebrates in a pond on Long Island and Presence of Marine Worms in the Peconic Estuary. Students discussed their work with other research students from across Long Island and their mentors, as well as academic scientists, including Nobel Prize winner Dr. James Watson. The event put a finishing touch on a successful and enriching year of research for the young scientists.
