Prodell students hear personal perspective of WWII
Eighth-grade students in Greg Schmit’s social studies class heard a firsthand historical account of the effects of World War II during a recent visit from guest speaker Christa Wennisch.

Ms. Wennisch shared her personal story and perspective about growing up in Germany during the second world war and living through the Allied bombing raids.

“It was a fascinating insight into an era that has passed but in many ways is still with us,” Mr. Schmit said. ‘The students were appreciative of her testimony and found it interesting to listen to someone who had memories of hearing Hitler’s voice on the radio and had experienced so much hardship.”

The overall theme and message of Wennisch’s visit was for today’s generation to be grateful for everything they have. “It’s easy to take for granted what we have, and her story was a powerful reminder that not everyone was or is so lucky,” Mr. Schmit said.
