The Board of Education honored high school senior Keyi Chen for his national rank in the top five percent of test takers in the American Mathematics Contest 12. Chen was also acknowledged as the first student in the district to qualify for entry into the American Invitational Mathematics Examination, which is the qualifying exam for the United States of America Mathematical Olympiad, the world’s most prestigious and difficult secondary mathematics examination.

“In addition to being a strong student, Keyi works diligently to increase his understanding and awareness of mathematical content,” math teacher Ellen Fraser said. “It takes a bright student who thinks logically, solves problems, persists, analyzes, organizes and makes an effort to relate all he has learned and apply it.”

Keyi is also a valued member of the Mathletes team and recently placed fourth in the Suffolk County Mathematics Teachers Association Calculus Contest.
