An engaging STEM project at Miller Avenue had a springtime theme when
students in Kristen Gironda’s second-grade class created leprechaun
traps out of cardboard.
Utilizing a Makedo construction kit with cardboard and tools, including
safe-saws, screws and screwdrivers, the students explored ideas and
hypotheses in an open-ended, hands-on lesson that generated a deeper
understanding of STEM concepts.
The students considered the size of a leprechaun and then worked in
teams to design traps that would lure a leprechaun inside and keep him
secure to be able to find him when they returned to school.
