Senior Katherine Lee was selected as a News 12 Scholar-Athlete. This prestigious award is presented throughout the year to only 30 outstanding Long Island high school seniors who excel in athletics, academics, leadership and community service. In addition to receiving a $1,000 scholarship check, Lee was featured on News 12.

A gifted student-athlete, Lee is a member of the National Honor Society and a standout runner for SWR. She was nominated for the honor by her running coach Paul Koretzki, who cited her as an outstanding trainer and a great teammate.

Earlier this year, Lee received the Class B title in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships, which came on the heels of her Section XI Championship crown at Sunken Meadow State Park. She was also Shoreham-Wading River High School’s female recipient of the Suffolk Zone Senior Physical Education Award by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

An impressive record of achievements as a member of SWR’s cross-country, winter and spring track teams have made headlines for Lee. She holds numerous Suffolk County records for track and is recognized as the fastest 5K female high school runner at Sunken Meadow’s cross-country course. She has also received three New York State titles and has run on the national level.

Lee plans to continue her athletic achievements at Georgetown University where she will run as a member of the cross-country and track teams.
