The New York State School Boards Association recognizes October 23-27 as
School Board Recognition Week. The Shoreham-Wading River Central School
District is joining all public school districts across the state to
celebrate School Board Recognition Week by honoring our local board
members for their dedication to our community and its children.
“Our school board spends countless hours to making sure our schools are
helping every child learn at a higher level,” Superintendent Gerard
Poole said. “They make important decisions every month and spend many
hours each week studying education issues and regulations in order to
provide the leadership and oversight necessary to support our schools.
They undertake this unpaid public service work because they care deeply
about their community. On a personal note, they are invaluable to the
success of administration in our District, and we are thankful for their
leadership.”
Superintendent Poole said the key work of school boards is to raise student achievement by:
* Creating a shared vision for the future of education in our schools
* Setting the direction of the school district to achieve the highest student performance
* Developing a budget that aligns district resources to improve achievement
* Supporting a healthy school district culture in which to work and to learn
* And much more!
“Our school board members give the Shoreham-Wading River citizens a
voice in education decision making,” Mr. Poole said. They are attentive
to all stakeholders and look for opportunities for our community to be
involved in our schools. Even though we make a special effort to show
our appreciation in October, their contribution is a year-round
commitment.”
