The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District Board of Education officially began the 2017-18 school year on July 11 with its annual reorganization meeting.

During the meeting, Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole, who took the leadership reins on July 1, took the oath of office and new Board trustees Katie Andersen, Erin Hunt and Henry Perez were sworn in and began their three-year terms. Additionally, incumbent members Robert Rose and Michael Lewis were elected President and Vice President, respectively. The remainder of the Board is comprised of new trustee Michael Yannucci, who was elected to serve the remaining year in the term of Michael Fucito and was sworn in on election night, and incumbent trustee Kimberly Roff.

During his first report on behalf of the District, Mr. Poole congratulated Mr. Rose and Mr. Lewis on their appointments and thanked the community, administrators and faculty for the warm welcome he received on his new role.

Before delivering a recap of the year’s highlights for the District – including Shoreham-Wading River High School’s recognition as one of America’s Most Challenging High Schools – Mr. Poole stated his commitment to working with the Board to collectively develop goals and sharing progress with the community.
