Shoreham-Wading River High School senior Jack Tressler was recently sworn in as a student member of the Shoreham-Wading River Board of Education.
In the role, in which he applied for, Jack will have the opportunity to weigh in on BOE discussions over the next several months.
“I’ve already learned a lot,” he said. “I now know what it’s like to be in a school board meeting and how they conduct themselves.”
While as a student BOE member, Jack does not have voting authority; he said he does hope to affect some positive change within his school.
“I don’t have too much time left on the board, but I would like to perhaps start a program that will improve the environment,” he said.
Jack will pass the torch to a new student at the end of June, before he heads off to James Madison University to study physics and engineering.
In addition to serving on the BOE, Jack studies martial arts outside of school and is a member of the varsity wrestling team.
