As part of the district’s ongoing commitment to ensure the health and safety of its school community, the Shoreham-Wading River School District hosted an informative workshop for parents and residents titled “Helping Kids Cope with Difficult Times.”

During the April event, representatives from Response of Suffolk County spoke about how parents and adults can collaborate with children and teens to develop safety plans that reduce the danger of high-risk behaviors. The workshop also included a discussion on promoting healthy coping strategies to stay safe, promote resilience and increase self-confidence. Additionally, the presenters spoke about the safety plan survey that high school juniors and seniors completed earlier this year and the social, emotional and life triggers that many face when in a crisis state.

To help continue the important conversation at home, attendees received a number of informative handouts, including a media contract for parents and children to use when establishing mutually agreed upon rules and expectations for how their family will use and behave when connecting digitally.
