Shoreham-Wading River CSD Appoints New Superintendent

The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District Board of Education officially appointed veteran educator Mr. Gerard W. Poole as Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, during its April 18 meeting.

"We are delighted to welcome Mr. Poole to the district,” said Board of Education President John Zukowski. “He brings with him the experience and vision the Board was looking for in our new Superintendent."

An educator for 20 years, Mr. Poole currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Freeport School District. During his four years of service in Freeport, his primary focus has been to provide world-class opportunities for all students through a challenging curriculum including elementary level introduction to technology, advance science research, expanded college credit opportunities and a heightened awareness of the importance of character education and social and emotional learning.

Prior to serving in Freeport, Mr. Poole was the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Valley Stream Union Free School District 30. Earlier in his career, he worked as an elementary classroom teacher and literacy coach in the Riverhead Central School District.

Mr. Poole received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at New Paltz, a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Long Island University and an Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Mr. Poole is a lifelong resident of Mattituck, where he resides with his wife and two sons, who both attend Mattituck High School.
Of his appointment Mr. Poole said, “I am looking forward to working as the next superintendent,” said Poole. “I will work my hardest to build upon the district’s successes.”
