Shoreham-Wading River to Appoint New Superintendent of Schools

During the April 18 Board of Education meeting, it is anticipated the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District will appoint veteran educator Mr. Gerard W. Poole as Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1.

“The appointment of Mr. Poole is the culmination of a months-long search and it is with great pleasure that we welcome him to our community,” said Board of Education President John Zukowski. “He brings with him the level of educational skill, experience and knowledge that the Board and community were searching for to lead our District into the future.”

An educator for 20 years, Mr. Poole currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Freeport School District. During his four years of service in Freeport, his primary focus has been to provide world-class opportunities for all students through a challenging curriculum including elementary level introduction to technology, advance science research, expanded college credit opportunities and a heightened awareness of the importance of character education and social and emotional learning.

Prior to serving in Freeport, Mr. Poole was the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Valley Stream Union Free School District 30. Earlier in his career, he worked as an elementary classroom teacher and literacy coach in the Riverhead Central School District.

Mr. Poole received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at New Paltz, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Long Island University and an Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Mr. Poole is a lifelong resident of Mattituck, where he resides with his wife and two sons, who both attend Mattituck High School.
Mr. Poole is honored to serve as the next Superintendent of the Shoreham Wading River Central School District and is grateful to the Board of Education for their confidence in him. “It was clear throughout the interview process that the Board of Education and I share the mutual commitment to providing cutting-edge educational experiences for students, to collaborating with students, staff, parents and the community and to meet the needs of the whole child,” said Poole. “I am excited to become part the Shoreham Wading River Central School District, a district with an amazing past, present and unlimited potential for the future.”
The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District Board of Education meeting will be held on April 18 at 7 p.m. in Prodell Middle School, 100 Randall Road, Shoreham, NY. There will be a small celebration to welcome Mr. Poole at the conclusion of the Board meeting.
