Wading River Elementary School third-graders, who have been studying immigration in class, recently participated in their school’s annual, hands-on Immigration Day.

As part of the day, students, dressed as steerage passengers in period costumes, toted “luggage” onto a “ship” and then made their way through a series of inspection stations in the gymnasium, which was transformed into “Ellis Island.”  The studies carried documentation papers that were stamped by mock doctors and other “immigration” officials. At the end of the day, each student received full entry into the United States.

The event is a collaborate effort by faculty, parents and staff.
