On March 24, a group of 10 seventh- and eighth-graders participated in the annual Suffolk County MoMathlon at Brookhaven National Lab.
During the event, the students competed in three rounds, including individual, team and mixed. In the mixed rounds, the students were placed in random teams and worked together to solve math problems without the use of a calculator.
“We were pleased to see that they were so quick to develop a rapport with their new team members. This is such an important skill in achieving college and career readiness,” said teacher Michele Vitale, who accompanied the students along with fellow teacher Roe Handshaw.
