The Shoreham-Wading River High School announced Anthony Peraza and Kyle Higgins as the Class of 2017 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively during a ceremony on March 21.
Valedictorian Peraza has had a number of academic accomplishments throughout his high school career. Since his freshman year, he has received excellence awards in biology and Spanish and he is an AP Scholar with Distinction. Peraza is also an athlete, participating in cross-country, winter and spring track and earned an All-County academic runner distinction. He is also a performer in his school’s jazz band, a member of the Natural Helpers and National Honor Society.
In the fall, Peraza will attend Cornell University to study environmental biological engineering.
During his time in high school, salutatorian Higgins, made his mark as a member of Natural Helpers, the National Honor Society and as an athlete who played varsity lacrosse, soccer basketball and football. He has earned academic awards including excellence in AP chemistry and pre-calculus, as well as an All-Academic distinction for basketball.
In the fall, Higgins will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study engineering.
