To mark Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, the high school social studies department in conjunction with Principal Dan Holtzman held a Martin Luther King Day essay contest, based on the civil rights activist’s “Drum Major Instinct” sermon.

For the essay, students were encouraged to write about the sermon, which challenged people to look beyond their needs to be the “drum major” and look at the importance of service to others.
