In learning about healthy activities that they can participate in throughout their lives, Miller Avenue School students in the Shoreham-Wading River School District recently learned to rollerblade within their gym classes.

Through the program, students, with the assistance of parents, grandparents and teachers, strapped on skates, helmets and padding and began to learn skating basics including balance and safety.

“It is a lifetime activity that is fun and promotes cardio health,” said gym teacher Katherine Carlson.

The district has supported the skating program for more than 10 years.
