Young Ecologists at Work

Miller Avenue second-graders put their science skills into action while on a field trip to the Wading River pond on Oct. 13 and 14.

As part of their studies on ecosystems and indigenous animals, the students were tasked with exploring the pond and its surroundings using a variety of scientific methods.

Aside from making general observations, the students tested the water for cloudiness, oxygen levels, bacteria levels and temperature in an effort to determine if the pond is viable and healthy.
