Students across the Shoreham-Wading River School District paid tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11.
At the high school on Sept. 9, students rang the school’s Peace Bell. The annual commemoration was preceded by Principal Dan Holtzman reflecting on the events of 9/11 over the high school’s public address system, followed by a moment of silence.
Middle school students recognized the heroes of 9/11 through several grade-level projects. In their social studies classes, sixth-graders created a hero quilt, seventh-graders wrote about what it means to be a hero and eighth-graders wrote postcards of thanks to local heroes.
Students at both Miller Avenue and Wading River schools marked the 15th anniversary of 9/11 by wearing the colors of the American flag to school.
