The Shoreham-Wading River School District once again held a successful Summer Music Institute and Theater Arts Program where more than 200 students in grades K-12 performed for family and friends at the middle school.
Over the course of five weeks, the students learned dance moves, lines and songs while making new friends, developing character and strengthening their teamwork skills.
This year, students performed “Wing It!,” “Jungle Book Kids,” “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” and “Zombie Prom.” Students also had the opportunity to continue their musical studies through instrumental and vocal lessons offered twice a week. Among the instrumental lesson choices were jazz band, guitar, piano and ukulele.
“Each year, the Summer Music Institute and Theater Arts Program strives to provide and instill a lifelong love and desire to learn, create and participate in the performing arts,” said Paula Albert-Franz, who currently directs the 41-year-old program. “The only thing better than music is more music. Judging by the sounds and smiling faces around the middle school this summer, a wonderful five weeks was had by all.”
