Dressed up as animals indigenous to Long Island, second-graders in Sue Byrnes’ class presented their original nonfiction books to parents and friends during an assembly on May 20.

The students wrote the books about deer, rabbits, frogs and other animals as part of their in-class science writer’s workshop. The initiative helped the second-graders learn about science while improving their writing skills.
