Leading by Example

High school senior Kayla Donegan has earned a Principal’s Leadership Award and a $1,000 scholarship from the Suffolk County High School Principals Association. To earn the accolade, Kayla was nominated by Principal Daniel Holtzman.

Kayla proved her student leadership skills by participating in her school’s Best Buddies program, which provides one-on-one friendship opportunities to high school and special education students. She also served as the program’s head fundraising officer her junior year and is currently serving as treasurer, overseeing the management of all the organization’s finances.

Outside of school, Kayla volunteers at Mather Hospital on a regular basis; work she believes is preparing her to achieve her goal of becoming a nurse.

Kayla will be attending North Carolina’s Gardner-Webb University to study nursing in the fall.
