Students at Miller Avenue and Wading River schools put on their science hats and displayed their original research projects during the schools’ respective science fairs on March 16.
The annual fairs gave kindergartners through fifth-graders a venue to showcase a variety of science projects, including ones related to toothpaste, gravity, the digestive system, bubbles and slime. Volunteer high school science students were on hand to judge this year’s winners.
Additionally, Miller Avenue students participated in special science activities provided by the St. Joseph’s College Chemistry Club. Students made slime and elephant toothpaste and learned about density by creating a rainbow in a jar.
The district extends its congratulations to the following science fair winners, who will represent SWR at the annual Brookhaven National Lab Science Fair on Saturday, May 7:
Miller Avenue Winners: William Lister (kindergarten), Jaden Flores (first grade) and Forrest Tepfenhardt (second grade).
Wading River Winners: Cameron Sheedy (third grade), Emily Cordano (fourth grade) and Colleen Ohrtman (fifth grade).
