Close to 170 elementary and middle school students are spending their summer mornings participating in sports, crafts and games through the District’s 30-year-old Summer Round-Out Program.

Coordinated by District staff members, as well as middle and high school student volunteers who gain community service hours through the camp, the five-week program provides a supervised environment where students interact with their peers and are treated to special activities and theme days.

Due to the program’s popularity, District alumni often return to work at the camp, including Dylan Busch, a 2013 Shoreham-Wading River High School graduate who now heads up the program at Wading River. Dylan, who will be studying math education at Stony Brook University in the fall, says the Summer Round-Out Program is helping him to pursue his dream of becoming a math teacher.

“This camp is providing a great experience for me as I work to become a teacher,” he said.
