College Readiness Begins in Middle School

To prepare fifth-graders for what awaits them in September, the middle school held a fifth-grade orientation on June 19 based on the theme “College Readiness Begins in Middle School.”

More than 100 middle school student volunteers, wearing college shirts, greeted the fifth-graders as they made their way to the school’s auditorium for orientation.

The fifth-graders learned more about the middle school from staff. They were also entertained by the school’s special music ensembles and spent time with middle school students, who answered their questions. In addition, the incoming sixth-graders toured the school through a “college treasure hunt,” during which they found keychains and pens that had been donated by more than 20 colleges.
