High school junior Amanda de Lauzon earned a first honorable mention in the student category of the annual Gurwin Photo Contest, hosted by Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Amanda, an advanced photography student, earned the award after submitting a photo she took of ballet shoes. She was one of 687 students to enter the student category, which was judged by a panel of professional photographers.

This is not the first time that Amanda’s work has been recognized. She earned Best in Show at the Long Island Media Show at Five Towns College and her work has been featured six times on Jones Soda bottles, a national product sold at several area retailers.

“Her photography focuses mainly on portraits, capturing both beautiful and eerie images,” said high school photography teacher Jason Andria. “We are very proud of her.”
