Safe Driving

To ensure the safety of high school seniors as their prom and graduation approach, the high school invited a representative from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office to speak to students about safe driving.

During the presentation, Shawn McCready, an assistant district attorney and a 2000 Shoreham-Wading River graduate, showed students a short film about how lives can be affected by boating while intoxicated. He also took the time to speak with the students on the dangers of driving while intoxicated, texting while driving and drag racing.

Mr. McCready educated the seniors about social host laws and myths about “getting sober,” as well. He noted that drinking coffee or taking a cold shower will not help anyone sober up faster. “Only time will help you to get sober,” he said.
