Miller Avenue second-graders recently learned about wildlife through two presentations conducted by Sweetbriar Nature Center of Smithtown and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
During the Sweetbriar presentation, students learned about the types of wildlife that live in ponds and were introduced to a duck that was rehabilitated. From the DEC’s representatives, the students learned about the differences between wild animals and pets.
Both events, according to Principal Christine Carlson, support the second-grade science curriculum and the study of local ecosystems.
