Middle school students have been learning about a variety of fitness activities that they can participate in throughout their lives during Wellness Week, which runs through Feb. 13.
During the week, students’ regular physical education classes are replaced with activities taught by guest instructors. Students can participate in yoga, kickboxing, hula-hoop, and Zumba.
In addition to the exercise program, Wellness Week included a healthy eating component in which students learned about the sugar content in different drinks. In their health classes, students met with representatives from the American Heart Association to learn about heart disease prevention.
“By exposing students to various activities in middle school, we hope they will want to try some of them outside of school and become lifelong movers,” said physical education teacher Allison DeMarco.
