Senior Sings His Way to Nationals

High school senior Danny Blake has become the first singer from Shoreham-Wading River to be accepted into the NAfME All-National Honor Ensemble Conference, which was held this year in Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 26-29.

“It was very exciting,” said Danny, who qualified after receiving a score of 100 on his solo at the New York State School Music Association Solo Evaluation Festival, attending the NYSSMA Winter Conference as an All-State musician, and submitting a two-minute video of himself singing.

The conference gave Danny the opportunity to meet and sing with 340 other students from across the country, as well as learn from a new conductor.

“It was great for him to be able to work with like-minded people and a new conductor,” said high school choir director Dennis Creighton.

Danny, who has been singing since the sixth grade, is a member of the high school a cappella group Vocal Express and the concert choir. He also recorded a CD and performs at a local coffee shop with friend Joe Testa as the group The Well Dwellers.

Danny hopes to attend SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in the fall and major in chemistry. He also plans to continue singing.
