Band and choral students from Shoreham-Wading River High School will have the opportunity to showcase their talent across Europe this summer through the program American Music Abroad.

The eight musicians, along with fellow music students from New York and New Jersey, were selected to perform in five countries on the Freedom Tour, which makes stops in France, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Aside from performing, the students will have the opportunity to tour numerous historic sites.

“This is such a wonderful opportunity for these kids,” said Dennis Creighton, choral conductor at Shoreham-Wading River High School, who will be conducting the tour’s choir in addition to chaperoning the trip.

Creighton said all of the students needed to raise funds for the monthlong trip, which costs around $6,000.

“I think this is an amazing opportunity,” said junior Michaella Aliperti, who will be singing with the tour’s choir.  “Not only will this be a great experience to see parts of the world, but I will be able to form bonds and experience different cultures.”

Band student Richard Fox, who plays the French horn, was equally excited. “I think it will be great to see all the sites that I have always wanted to see,” he said.
