Briarcliff Elementary School welcomed wildlife educator Erik Callendar and some of his most interesting friends on May 9. The educational, hands-on program introduced students to animals from various regions of the world, such as a water monitor lizard, albino python, South African bullfrog and more.

“It is so important for us to learn about nature and its creatures,” said Callendar. “In order to respect nature, we must first educate ourselves and others about how to do so. It’s our job to protect the environment.”

During the unique lesson, Callendar spoke to students in detail about the qualities, characteristics and personalities that each of the animals embodied. He also provided background information about the region of the world from which they originate and gave insight into their lives here in New York.
