Senior Gives Gift of Happier (Birth) Days

High school senior and Girl Scout Alexis Biemer has been brightening the lives of locally hospitalized children one smile at a time through her birthday initiative. Inspired by her love of working with children, Alexis collected 30 baskets of birthday supplies for donation to the Stony Brook University Child Life Program.

“My mother works as a physical therapist at the hospital,” said Alexis. “I thought this would be a perfect opportunity for me to reach out to the children there and do what I could to positively impact their lives. No child wants to spend their birthday in a hospital, but at least this will make things a little better.”

Alexis, who has received positive feedback and thanks from the hospital, plans to pass her project along to the younger members of her Girl Scout troop when she departs for college. In the fall, Alexis will be studying elementary education at the State University of New York at Geneseo.
