In an ongoing effort to combine physical education with fun, interactive experiences for children, Wading River Elementary School teachers Katie Carlson and John Regazzi implemented “boot camp” for students. Children rotated through 10 different circuit training stations in their physical education class, ranging from floor squats and box jumps to push-ups and resistance band training. The unit served as a new, challenging way to help build students’ cardiovascular endurance, a major component of exercise and wellness.
According to Principal Stephen Donohue, “The students are really enjoying this unit. Some children are even going home and asking their parents to try the exercises at home with them!”
