Homecoming 2012 was a time of celebration for Shoreham-Wading River, as students, staff, alumni, parents and community members united to showcase their Wildcat pride. Throughout the week leading up to the homecoming football game, high school students took part in spirit week, dressing up for different themes each day. From twin day and “dress like a teacher day” to color day and decades day, classes took part in a friendly competition against one another to see who displayed the most spirit.

On Friday afternoon, high school students gathered together for the annual Pep Rally to ignite Wildcat Pride to an even higher level. Each fall sports team was introduced and senior members were announced to cheers from the crowd. The varsity cheerleading team then performed, impressing their fellow students with their athletic stunts and loud cheers.

The following day, the high school held its annual homecoming parade, during which each class showcased their float. Based on the theme of “classic video games,” the freshman class portrayed “Donkey Kong,” the sophomore class highlighted “Pac-Man,” the juniors showcased “Sonic the Hedgehog,” and the seniors impressed with their rendition of “Super Mario Kart.” Prior to the start of the game, a variety of high school clubs were also present to fundraise, each displaying a booth for community residents to visit.

To kick off the football game, the Vocal Express provided a moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. The Wildcats then took to the field against the Stony Brook Bears for the final game of the regular season. While the Widlcats were trailing during the first quarter, they quickly took the lead of the game, conquering Stony Brook with a score of 40-21, the perfect conclusion to a week of spirited festivities.
